Oil pump inspection
The oil pump looked practically brand new except for the gouge that I made in it when removing the crank. It is only a superficial scrape, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
I measured the space between the gears and the walls of the housing and they were much tighter than I could measure with my thinnest feeler gauge. Well within the Ducati spec of 0.10mm. There was some faint scoring of the pump cover, but nothing that seemed out of the ordinary. The scoring looked more like After a quick clean-up, I reassembled the pump cover. Tighten the oil pump cover screws (5mm X 20mm socket head cap screws X 6) to [enter torque value here].
After reassembling, make sure the pump spins freely. When I reassembled mine, it felt like it was scraping when spun by hand. I took it apart and put some engine oil on the surfaces, cleaned the mating surfaces again, and put it back together. When it is correct, it should make a “geared pumping” noise as the teeth mesh and echo in the chamber.
