Measuring piston wear
To measure the pistons, I used my caliper and measured slight up from the base of the piston, as the manual suggested. My measurements were as follows:
Vertical piston measurement 2mm from base of skirt: 3.2265″ or 81.9531mm
Horizontal piston measurement 2mm from base of skirt: 3.2270″ or 81.9658mm
The spec that the manual suggests for piston clearance in the cylinder bore is 0.02 - 0.04mm. I am assuming that this means to subtract the largest ID of the cylinder bore from the OD of the piston. When I did that, I found the following:
| My vertical piston = | 82.0674 - 81.9531 = 0.1143 = NO |
| My horizontal piston = | 82.0547 - 81.9658 = 0.0889 = NO |
Ducati specified wear limit: 0.14mm (from 82mm?)
My vertical piston clearance (82.0547mm - 81.9531mm) = 0.1016mm
My horizontal piston clearance (82.0547mm - 81.9658mm) = 0.0889mm
